C. Louis S.
I served in Chile for two years as a missionary for my church. By day I'm a computer programmer and by night—and early morning—I write. My debut novel, Son of Shadow Hero of Light, was written for the teenage boys I served as a youth leader, but has been a spiritual journey for me.

Extended Bio
When all your friends are playing during eighth grade homeroom and you’re writing a novel at your desk, you realize how boring you must seem to them. This is C. Louis S.’s experience. That first novel was called Saturn’s Quest and it took him three years to finish. He actually wrote and illustrated The Crazy Turtle and the Crazy Snake in fifth grade, but that isn’t even worth mentioning except at family reunions for a good laugh.
He eventually got away from writing and pursued an even nerdier path to become a software engineer. It’s a branch of creativity that is different from writing a novel, but it still has the same puzzle solving aspects as trying to weave a good tale. It didn’t help his social status though.
As a kid, he played video games with his older brothers. At least he thought he was until he realized that they only gave him the second controller and told him he was playing so that he wouldn’t bug them. After he actually started playing, he grew up on the greatest games of the 80s and 90s. Though he doesn’t play much now, he and his wife love challenging each other to Super Smash Brothers and StarCraft 2.
Before he got married he served as a missionary for his church for two years in Chile. He learned Spanish and learned to appreciate a beautiful culture there. He also learned some of his most important life lessons on his mission—which he paid for himself—such as the importance of setting goals and working towards them every day and the power of God’s hand in our lives. His wife is from Venezuela—also in South America—and they were a perfect match from the beginning.
With his fourth kid on the way, he decided to take up writing novels again, though he does it very part-time because he doesn’t want to miss a second of his kids’ life. He and his wife have realized just how precious and fulfilling having kids is and they spend most of their time together when he’s not at work.
One of his favorite quotes is “Keep moving forward” from Walt Disney and he uses it as something of a mantra for his life. His inspiration to write also comes from a powerful movie called Courageous, which is a spiritual journey for a struggling father. He’ll admit that he cried and vowed to be a better dad.
He’s served in many positions in his church, but his favorite was a youth leader over 12-14 year-old boys. He still misses them and much of the inspiration for his debut novel, Son of Shadow Hero of Light, came from interacting with them and wanting to write something that would always stay with them.
His other childhood love was martial arts. His oldest son is currently study Kempo and someday he hopes that his wife and kids will all study Kung Fu together.
